Avva is produced from a bespoke Scottish made copper still named Jessie-Jean (J-J) after the distiller and owners’, Jill Brown’s grandmother. Avva itself means ‘a respected grandmother/respectable elder woman in the Indian language of Dravidian. In Hebrew however, it means to overturn or ruin which links the reputation that gin has as ‘Mothers Ruin’.
The brand logo takes it inspiration from one of the rose rose windows of the iconic Elgin Cathedral. Coincidentally the cathedral houses 11 arched windows which ties in nicely the number of botanicals used to produce the exceptional London Dry Gin that is, Avva!
